Travelling with Cigars
Becoming a cigar aficionado means the acquisition of a lot of different things, like humidor, ashtray, matches and lighters, cutter, tubes, hygrometer and humidifier. You cannot avoid any of these devices as it helps you enjoy your cigar in comfortable conditions at home, near a cozy fire. The same while traveling - you don't want to be on a journey without your favorite stogies. This is why there is a variety of travel humidors on the market - it is up to you what shape, color and size to choose.
A purpose-built travel humidor can carry from 1 to 20 cigars. They are waterproof, crush-resistant and designed especially to keep your cigars fresh and moist enough. This kind of humidor should be firm not to let damaging cigars while being on trip. Travel humidors can even function as cigars' transporter from the local shop exactly to your entry.
Another safest way to prevent ruining cigars on journey is to keep the cigars in their original box, in tubes, or in cases. All these methods are, of course, temporary as they do not allow a constant cigars' storage. However, they are alternative to travel humidors and are, sometimes, even better.
For example, tubes are a perfect one-use choice. After cigars are taken from the humidor, this allows them to remain moist in a proper manner. There are special tubes which will let you carry each cigar separately. The disadvantage is that you will need to carry several tubes like that, which is not always convenient.
As regards cases for cigars, their variety is great. Let's start from those which are designed specially for smokers who prefer long cigars. There are cases that have "digits" of the exact caliber with the capacity of moving apart. With such a case every cigar will be fixed in place and will be unable to spin around. On the other hand, if you would rather smoke various cigars, a case without sections and "fingers" would be an ideal selection for you.
When choosing a case, be sure to bring several stogies to the store - to assure that the case is perfect for them and you have no problems with putting cigars in and taking them out. Also, if you want to carry the case in your pocket, better ask your sartor to fit one of your clothes' pockets to the cigar case.
And, finally, when choosing the solidity of your case, be sure to opt for thickness. This way your cigars will be perfectly protected from exfoliating and crushing. The disadvantage is that a thick case will give extra heaviness to you, but I think you can cope with this :-)
